Accurate meter readings are our priority, BJWSA has contracted with Outsource Services, Inc. to replace transponders in customer water meters from September-November. This is part of our routine maintenance to assure we receive accurate meter readings. This work, done at the meter, will not interrupt water services. Transponders are battery-operated devices that transmit water use data by radio signal to our meter reading trucks. Meter Readers download data into a computer for use in calculating monthly bills. Transponder batteries last 7-9 years and must be replaced periodically to assure accurate meter readings. When a battery fails, the meter continues collects an accurate reading but the meter is read manually rather than electronically. This takes longer and introduces the possibility of human error in recording the reading.
