Okatie, SC (December 16, 2011, 5:45 p.m.) – Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority (BJWSA) and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) announced today that the latest water sample analyses indicate the water in the Burton area of Beaufort is free from bacteria and is safe for human consumption. The precautionary boil advisory for all subdivisions alo ng Joe Frazier Road, Mroz Road (including Irongate, Capehart and Pelican Circle), Morrall Drive and the Habersham subdivision has been lifted. The precautionary advisory to boil water to be used for drinking or cooking was issued Thursday, December 15 due to an incident that occurred wher e water pressure dramatically dropped while water service was being restored to the area along Burton Wells Road. The drop in pressure allowed for the possibility of bacteria to enter the p ublic drinking water syst em. Tests now show that the drinking water in the area is free from all harmful bacteria. BJWSA apologizes for any inconvenience this incident may have caused.
