Okatie, SC (May 30, 2013) – Beaufort Jasper Water and Sewer Authority (BJWSA) and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) announced today that the latest water sample analyses indicat e the water in the Lands End area of St. Helena Island is safe to use and consume as normal. The precautionary boil advisory for the following streets has been lifted: Hand Dr., Seaside Rd. (from the intersection of Lands End Dr. eastward), Lands End Dr. , Buchannan Rd., Bay Point Rd., McCoy Rd., Lee Rd., Toomer Rd., Lynn Blvd., Noble Dr., and Vista Blvd E.
The precautionary advisory to boil water to be used for drinking or cooking was issued Wednesday, May 29, due to a water main failure resulting in substantial drop in pressure. The drop in pressure allowed for the possibility of bacteria entering the public drinking water system. Tests now show that the drinking water in the area is free from all harmful bacteria.
BJWSA apologizes for any inconvenience this incident may have caused its customers.
